Support Service Department Leadership Teams met last week to align their work to the District Strategic Plan. Our Department Leadership Teams (DLT) are gathering input from employees within their departments, creating and aligning department goals to the strategic plan and using data to make future decisions impacting the department.
These teams will help create department mission statements aligned to the District mission and vision, set SMART goals for the year and determine what data to collect to monitor their progress.
Key tasks for the 2010-11 school year:
Department Leadership Teams will demonstrate teamwork, collaboration and shared leadership to set and communicate direction and continuous improvement within the department Department Leadership Teams have 2 key objectives:
- Help the department work better!
- Make the department a better place to work!
Teams will create a Department Plan on a Page that connects the support service department to the District strategic plan. This includes: 1.) Aligning the department goals to the goals of the strategic plan; 2.) Engaging everyone in continuous improvement; 3.) Identifying mission and goals for the department; and 4.) Identifying strengths of the department as well as opportunities for improvement.
Teams will create a Department Balanced Scorecard , using data to identify opportunities for improvement and to monitor progress of the department goals. This includes: 1.) Identify measures and indicators that will drive continuous improvement within the goals of the department; 2.) Create a data display that graphically shows historical, current state and future targets; and 3.) Use data to make adjustments to goals and actions.
Teams will practice continuous improvement by using quality tools and process to seek stakeholder input and drive improvement within the department. This includes: 1.) Learning how to use quality tools (affinity diagram, cause and effect diagrams, run charts, Pareto diagrams, flow charts, etc.); 2.) Learning more about process improvement (Plan Do Study Act and Lean/6 Sigma); and 3.) Understanding how engage everyone in the department in continuous improvement efforts.
